I love music. And I really love getting to the bottom of things and figuring out where it all comes from.  What musicians influenced the music we hear today? Who took innovative risks that resulted in new genres of music or a new way of creating music?  That’s what I want to know, and that’s where you find the really good stuff.

So, you can’t overlook Brian Eno.This man’s influence reaches far into so many different pockets of the music world.  He’s best known as the creator of “ambient music,” which was designed to blend into the environment and serve as a soothing soundtrack to your life.  Eno also introduced tape loops, which laid the foundation for sampling that dominates hip-hop and electronica, and showed musicians how they can use  studio technology as a means for creating music.

Eno he got his start in the 1970’s with the band,”Roxy Music,” an English art-rock group which had tremendous influence on David Bowie and Iggy Pop.  In the 1980’s U2 recruited Eno to produce their albums Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, which we all love:) He also produced albums by The Talking Heads and Devo.  He definitely has a cult following, which is well-deserved.  I highly recommend Eno’s album Another Green World, a  masterpiece that creates a minimalistic dreamworld, that for about 4 months of my life, I listened to every night before bed.  So soothing.

I found this time-lapse video that is set to Eno’s “This.” The director said the he would go out to this specific spot near his home in Canada and take short pieces of footage at different times of the year.  It’s really easy on the eyes and the song has a nice, playful  groove to it. Enjoy.
